Strawberry Banana Smoothie

June 3, 2013

This my breakfast smoothie. I have put on some unwanted lbs in the last nine months and I am on a mission to get rid of all of them and this smoothie has become an important step in my daily regime. There are a few theories for the expansion of my waistline; I am convinced that love, for reasons too long for this post, leads to weight gain. Some people tell me that I am exaggerating in the stereotypical way that women are known to complain about “being fat” but the scale doesn’t lie and neither does the fact that I can’t fit into my jeans, this is a clear sign that things have changed. I have also been told that this is just my “woman weight”, well in that case I request a refund because I do not recall purchasing such weight and if a refund is not possible then I would like an exchange for “pre-adolescent weight”. In all seriousness food can be our best friend or our greatest foe depending on our lifestyles. I believe that skipping meals does more damage and therefore I always recommend starting the day right and this smoothie is the perfect way forward.

There are various brands of smoothies available on the shelves, many of which advertise themselves as “healthy”, “all-fruit” drinks but they conveniently fail to mention how much sugar or other additives are included in their recipes. The reality is whilst smoothies can help you lose weight, keep hydrated, and provide essential nutrients, not all smoothies are equal and the best ones are going to be the ones you make for yourself. You may think that there’s nothing to a smoothie, you are right in thinking that they are easy but I have had smoothies that aren’t so great. Most times this is because they are a bit bland. While frozen fruit are useful the fact is I think they need a little boost in the flavour department and that’s where a bit of honey, milk and yoghurt come in. Whether you are rushing out or skipping a sit-down lunch this recipe is perfect for those times when we need calories to keep us moving but do not have the time or energy to make a complete meal.  Use this quick and easy recipe to pave the way for a great day!
