I’m still cleansing, so you can imagine how torturing it is writing these blogs. The good news is that the end is near and I am really looking forward to eating delicious meals again and sharing them with you. In preparation for this I have decided I want to buy a grill. I have never personally cooked on an outdoor grill but I love eating from people who have and I figured its about time I get my tongs, burn some charcoal and start smokin’ some meat.
As for what type of grill to get, maybe you can help. After much deliberation, I have narrowed my criteria to a reasonable list of four.
- Charcoal not Electric – Only a charcoal grill will give me that smoky flavour.
- Igniter – I would prefer not to have to drench the charcoal in lighter fluid and light.
- Easy Cleaning – The easier it is to clean up the mess the more fun I will have.
- Cast Iron Grill Grates – Stainless Steel simply won’t do. I need bold grilling marks, non-stick abilities, heat retention, which makes the extra TLC, the Cast Iron requires, worth it.
I’m told life is all about sacrifices although I haven’t quite yet caught on to the concept, choosing a grill may be my first true lesson. So far I have cut my choices down to the Char-Broil American Gourmet Barrel Style Charcoal Grill and the Char-Griller 1515 Patio Pro Model Grill. There is one problem, despite the raving reviews they only tick 3 of my 4 boxes, as they require manual ignition. I have started to lose my patience and therefore my drive to continue the search for my perfect grill, so I may just have to settle….this once.
I am getting excited thinking about what I am going to grill first. I’m thinking it’ll be some juicy, ‘Too Yummy To Be Cute Ribs’. The kind you don’t eat on the first date, unless you are really trying to force the “I’m SO down-to-earth impression” but forcing anything is never good. Anyway, if you can recommend a grill please do and if not, it will officially be summer June 20th so have fun, get grilling, start mingling and make something yummy!
